Roadway workers strike gives drivers a respite

For the first-time in months, Chicago -area drivers were encountering relatively construction-free expressways this morning as two major highway workers unions went on strike. The Illinois Department of Transportation picked up lane-closure construction barriers on most reconstruction projects. The tollway system appeared to be an exception, although it wasn’t immediately clear why.
