Mainstreet USA Chicago Illinois – 27 Aug 07 – Part 1

Al Jazeera’s Dave Marash explores Cabrini Green, a notorious public housing development on the north side of Chicago now largely pulled down, and talks to residents, many of whom allege they were hastily forced into other slums, and denied social services to get a leg up in society.

WGN-TV’s Julian Crews takes his ever popular “Cruisin’ Illinois” series (get it?) to Chicago’s 3rd tallest building, the John Hancock Tower. This guy’s got guts, standing on the edge of a 1200 foot building. Check it out.

Many public housing project and historically Black neighborhoods were constructed on toxic waste landfills, dumps, and toxic coal waste and incinerator waste wer used as fill dirt. These chemicals cause both medical and mental problems that could be responsible for much of the sickness, death, and violence that goes on in these neighborhoods. I believe all these neighborhood should be inspected for toxic waste. Today, many public housing are? being demolished to cover up the toxic waste issues

    @porkschoppers
You racist fuck. So many things wrong with what you said. What does the UK have to do with African Americans? Nothing. Two, most black people aren’t in gangs or on drugs. Where the fuck where you in second grade, when they taught people about stereotyping?

    UGH.

You’re probably a Liberal. BUT, if the Soviet Union does that, that’s okey; right?
In Soviet Russia, none of these people would get an apartment if they don’t work-
I wish many people in America who believe USA is a “Bad” Nation, they should try Mexico, or maybe Cuba!!
You’ll see how “Their Justice” is–
    You’d SWIM back to America

  9. Comment by rachezee — October 18, 2010 @ 7:39 am

not to mention that chicago ave. does not pass at all through the heart of downtown. It passes through streeterville. Downtown is further south over the river.

  10. Comment by rachezee — October 18, 2010 @ 7:45 am

moving south on chicago ave? uh- it is an east/west street

  12. Comment by porkschoppers — October 18, 2010 @ 8:37 am

Well i have to comment on this why do you go on about slavery its long gone, African tribes used to raid each others rivals and slate tribes men to be sold to the whites for guns and stuff. Oh yeah its well documented that in the UK in the 1800s there where black slave owners. i think you will find with your freedom most have achieved nothing and most are in gangs or on drugs. that is there free will to do that shit not any white european.

School are especially built for kids who live in these areas? Wow, thats pretty harsh hey.. I thought they’d b given the right to go to any public school at least

  15. Comment by iuseNERFbullets — October 18, 2010 @ 9:44 am

How do you suppose they get a job (not a minimum wage job that would barely afford monthly rent, let alone any other bills or necessities) when their public schools don’t have proper supplies and students who aren’t in gangs are beaten and intimidated to join a gang (honestly, you get beat into joining)? If it was such a simple solution, it would have been solved by now. Please don’t think you’re the first to spout that garbage…

  19. Comment by everett0 — October 18, 2010 @ 11:50 am

Blacks were originally from Africa. Our ancestors were chained, beaten and brought here against their wills, by a white man. There was not one black man captaining a ship loaded with slaves coming to America. If your white men were not so weak that they could not even work their own land, and the women so timid, they could not care for their own children, let alone clean their own homes, we wouldn’t have had to be kidnapped and taken against our will. Whites brought us here, now deal with it!!

new yorkers hate chicago???…..dont think so many ppl. from nyc move hear because our home prices our alot cheaper, its cleaner, and pollution isnt as bad as nyc either. Its alot more livable than nyc thats why people move to chicago from nyc….

  44. Comment by BearFan09 — October 18, 2010 @ 11:21 pm

People from NYC don’t care about people from upstate, and I know that because I have taken interest and looked at different websites and pictures.

It depends what “people” you’re talking about. People from the midwest love Chicago. Chicago leads the midwest. People from the York/Jersey area love NYC. People from New England love Boston. People from the west love LA. It isn’t complicated, you’re just making it that way.

  45. Comment by SuperGoldfish1999 — October 18, 2010 @ 11:53 pm

People in NYC don’t hate people from Upstate NY, people in NYC hate people in chicago and they also hate people in the South, actually. You’re just making shit up to be a Troll. Unless you’ve lived in NY and had experiences where people rom NYC said they “hated” people from Upstate, don’t try to tell me, a person who actually lives in NY, Lies like that.

And also you claimed that people “love chicago”. No, people love New York and California you ignorant faggot. chicago is hated in this country

  46. Comment by BearFan09 — October 19, 2010 @ 12:01 am

    1. I love New York’s buildings. It is definitely a beautiful city.
    2. Chicago is way better. The Empire State building is 300+ feet shorter than the Sears Tower.
    3. People from NYC hate people from upstate New York. You may like NYC, but New Yorkers see upstate as annoying.
    4. Tons of people love Chicago. It is a huge tourist attraction, it might get the olympics, and, like I pointed out before, it has the best dining and sports in the United States.

  47. Comment by SuperGoldfish1999 — October 19, 2010 @ 12:33 am

Fuck you bitch, New York is the Best City in the World and The Empire State Building and the Statue Of Liberty and the upcoming Freedom Tower are the best buildings in the world. I’ve never been to Shitcago, and I’m never going to. I live in upstate NY (in Buffalo) and I’m originally from Toronto and everyone outside of Shitcago hates Shitcago

New York is 100 billion times better than Shitcago

  48. Comment by BearFan09 — October 19, 2010 @ 1:31 am

New York’s skyscrapers don’t even come close to Chicago’s. 7 out of the top twenty skyscrapers in the US are located in Chicago, opposed to 5 in NYC. In the top five, 2 are from Chicago, compared to 1 in NYC. Most importantly, the tallest building on the western hemisphere is located in Chicago. Chicago was also voted the best city in America to dine, and Illinois was voted the number one sports state in the US by ESPN. Chicago owns NYC in every category.
