High gas prices are sparking calls in Washington to tap the strategic oil reserves and open up more drilling. This makes obvious sense if you think traditional economics has anything to do with the current price of fuel. High school economics taught us the simple principle – if the price of something is spiking then there must be a shortage. If you address that shortage by increasing production, then prices will go down.
